Lecturer and Student Social Interaction in Implementing Character Education
In academic and non academic process on campus, the frequent emerging problemsare, there is no optimum interaction pattern built by some lecturers to the students or vice versa, the monotonous manner in the delivery of the material, the lack of feedback from the students in the learning process and the discussion and other related aspects. It causes the emotional, spiritual and intellectual bonds that need to be built as the initial foundation of students’ character education is finally hampered. This research aims to obtain accurate informationsconcerning the interactionbetween lecturers and students in implementing the process ofthinking, feeling, tasting and actingas the scope of character education at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Universitas Negeri Makassar. This research utilizes descriptive qualitative approach, to explore and to classify a social phenomenon or reality in a society by describing a number of variables related to the problemsas well as the unit being studied. The interview is conducted by employing purposive sampling. The research subjects are lecturers and students with data collection techniques including observation, interviews and documentation.After collecting data from various sources, the author analyzes, selects, and arranges the data in accordance with the sub-issues that have been formulated. The author draws the conclusion that 1) character education is related with one of lecturer competence namely social competence, in the frame of dynamic teaching and learning process, interaction between lecturers and students play essential role in creating an optimum teaching and learning condition. 2) The interaction between lecturers and students in implementing the process ofthinking, feeling, tasting and actingas the scope of character education at Faculty of Social Sciences at UniversitasNegeri Makassar run well. In addition to optimum classroom interaction, the role of lecturers as academic companion outside the classroom is also felt by the students as well as some of strategic programs of the Faculty of Social Sciences that are realized such as; softskills training or character building training toward students.
