PID Controller Design For Vibratory Milling

Milling process is one of the most commonly used in manufacturing industry. However, there is a serious problem in milling which is the chatter generated under unsuitable cutting conditions. A possible solution is to use control algorithms to supress this problem. PID control algorithms remain the most popular approach for industrial process control despite continual advances in control theory. This paper presents an application of vibration into milling process using oscillation in one direction. Acceleration and displacement signals, and forces in 3-axis are measured using a dynamometer. Here, a system identification process for this particular system is presented with a simulation results. A full control feedback system (PID controller), that controls the Vibration, is elaborated inMatlab software. Keywords - Milling Process, Chatter, Vibration assisted machining, PID.
