Paper Title
Development of A Digital Tool to Support Preconception Care for Children and Adolescents
Abstract
Japan's total fertility rate in 2023 was 1.20, highlighting the issue of declining birth rates as a significant social concern. The increasing trend of delayed marriage and non-marriage due to women's career advancement is a primary factor. Additionally, health-related issues such as underweight and obesity, lifestyle diseases, smoking, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) further increase the risks associated with pregnancy and childbirth. Therefore, preconception care based on comprehensive sexual education is crucial for young people in Japan. This study aimed to develop a digital tool for preconception care education targeting children, adolescents, and young adults. Short educational videos, ranging from two to five minutes, were created to simulate classroom-style lessons covering topics taught in elementary, junior high, and high school sexuality education curricula. However, Japan's school-based sexuality education primarily focuses on reproduction, sexuality, and contraception, which is insufficient for comprehensive sexual education. The integration of medical and educational content into a digital tool for preconception care can contribute to addressing the limitations of sexuality education in Japan.
