Paper Title
EVALUATION OF A WETLAND SYSTEM IN TREATING WASTEWATER AT SULAIBIYA RESEARCH PLANT IN KUWAIT

Abstract
Abstract - The overall aim of this studywas to design, construct, and evaluate the effluent quality of a small-scale wetland system as an in-situ treatmenttreating offices wastewater generated at Sulaibiya research plant(SRP) in Kuwait.Wetland treatment system is considered a low-cost solution in terms of operation and maintenance, other than the fact that it provides an artistic appearance, because of its green landscaping. The efficiency of the wetland system will be evaluated by comparing the effluent quality to Environment Public Authority (EPA), Kuwait standards for reuse in irrigation. A wetland system was designed and constructed at SRP and operated using wastewater from SRP under different loadings (low and high hydraulic loading rate). Samples from inlet and outlet of the wetland system were collected on a weekly basis for a one-year duration and analyzed for treated wastewater parameters listed in EPA standards (over 30 parameters). The results showed that the high hydraulic loading rate phase was better than the low hydraulic loading rate phase in terms of the removal efficiency.
