Circularly Polarized Microstrip Patch Antenna for (L2) Band GPS Application

Abstract
This paper presents the design and analysis ofsingle element microstrip patch antenna. Microstrip patch antennas such as low weight, low profile and low costs are perfect choice for communication systems such as WLAN system, navigation system and many others.In this paper, single band circularly polarized (CP) truncated patch antenna design is proposed. The antenna is designed to operate at L2 band (1.227GHz) for GPS application. The proposed antenna is designed on FR4 substrate with thickness 1.6mm,dielectric constant 4.4 and loss tangent 0.025. It is fed by a coaxial probe feeding.The proposed antenna is designed,modeled and simulated by Computer Simulation Technology(CST) Microwave Studio Suite. Antenna parameters such as Return Loss, VSWR, Axial ratio and radiation patterns are analyzed. The proposed antenna has overall dimensions 75*75mm2.
