Suggestion Strategies Deterrent to Electricity Theft in Haryana, India

Abstract
This paper presents the scenario of electricity theft in Sonepat district of Haryana, India. Electricity theft shares a major proportion of distribution losses faced by electricity distribution companies. Electricity theft indirectly depends on the people’s attitude towards electricity company and theft which further depends on their demographic profile. Consequently, the issue of electricity theft can be best resolved by adopting the strategies which are effective in customers’ view. This paper carries out the survey at district level and collects the suggestions for electricity theft prevention from the respondents. Their suggestions depend on their demographic profile. Frequency analysis of their suggestions highlights five major fronts on which certain policies need to be framed. A suggestion model has been posited which shows the significant suggestions that would be more effective in curbing electricity theft.
