Operational Excellence as the Basis for Business Transformation: A Case Study in a Car Manufacturer

Abstract
Research in operation strategy has shown that operational advances and alignment play an important role in shaping business, competitive, supply chain and alliance strategy. This case study shows different view and demonstrated the potential of linking strategy and operational excellence in transforming a business into a leading manufacturer. The case study shows that key aspects of business transformations changed tangibly following the operational advances and alignment of the case organization. The transformation is significantly facilitated and catalyzed by the company operational excellence, be that as it may, its origin may not really be ascribed to the operation. The transformation of the case organization was enabled by the new monetary and alliance strategy, product and process innovation, and work culture that the advancement and alignment of operational strategies permitted. In light of the experiences of the case organization, a few practical and functional suggestions that are applicable to overseeing and supporting operational changes are laid out and examined.
