Qualifications of an Ideal Mathematics Teacher According to Elementary Mathematics Preservice Teachers

Abstract
Teacherquality is an importantissue in terms of educationandteacherqualifications is a factorto be considered in terms of thequality of teaching (Darling-Hammond, 2000). Determiningthe general andspecificareas of competence of theprofessionandthesecompetencies can be gainedwiththepre-service and in-service trainingprogramsshouldhaveimprovethequality of teachingprofession. Inaddition, qualification of teachers, students in achievingsuccess in motivatingstudents is stated in theliteraturetheopinion is a factor (Cohen-Vogel, 2005; Darling-Hammond, 2000; Rockoff, 2003).Theaim of thisstudy is toexamineelementarymathematicspreserviceteachers� perceptionsaboutthequalifications of an ideal teacher.Inthisstudy, qualitativeapproachwasusedtodescribeallaspects of elementarymathematicspreserviceteachers� perceptions, experiencesaboutthequalifications of an ideal teacherInthisstudy, it wastriedtoprovideexamining of elementarymathematicspreserviceteachers� perceptionsaboutthequalifications of an ideal teacherwithoutanylimitationslikequestions, directionsandetc. Inthiscase, documentanalysis, one of themethods of qualitativeapproachwasused in thestudy, andresearcherdemandedfromelemantarypreserviceteacherstowrite an authenticcomposition on qualifications of an ideal teacher. 39 elemantarymathematicspreserviceteachers in thethirdgradelevelparticipated in thestudy.Thedatawerecollected on 2015-2016 springsemester. Fromthefindings it is understoodthatteachingskillsandqualifications, subject-matterknowledge, general cultureknowledgeandpersonalcharacteristicsareimportantfactorstobecome an ideal teacher. Idealforelemantarymathematicsteachersprofessionalskillsandqualificationsnecessarytohave a teacher; importancetocommunication, makingqualityeducation,bedisciplined, being a goodleader, tolovetheprofessionand be a goodguide.
