Structural and Optical Properties of Tris-(8-Hydroxyquinoline) Indium Films

Abstract
Tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) indium (Inq3) films with different thickness were prepared by thermal evaporation technique onto optical flat quartz substrates. The structural properties of the films were investigated using X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the films had amorphous structure. The optical properties of the films were investigated by using spectrophotometric measurements of the transmittance and reflectance in the spectral range 200-2500 nm. The refractive and absorption indices of the films were determined using Murmann�s exact exations and were found to be independent on the film thickness. The absorption coefficient of the films was calculated, from which the optical band gap of the films was determined. The refractive index is analyzed in terms of single oscillator model in which the dispersion parameters such as oscillator energy, dispersion energy and dielectric constant high frequency were determined.
