Room Temperature Exchange Bias in Zr Doped Bifeo3 Nano-Crystals

Abstract
Nano-crystalline Zr substituted Bi1-xZrxFeO3 (0≤ x ≤0.07) were prepared by a flash route. The structural properties of the Bi1-xZrxFeO3 system have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). XRD revealed single phase rhombohedral structure with space group, R3c. With increasing Zr contents, traces of secondary phase appears. The magnetic properties of the samples were examined by vibrating sample magnetometer, from which saturation magnetization (Ms), remnant magnetization (Mr) and coercivity (Hc) were determined. Both Ms and Mr increases with increasing Bi content up to x = 0. 03 and then decreases with further increase of Zr content. Hc decreases with increasing Zr content with maximum value at x=0.01. The samples showed exchange bias, where the (M-H) loops exhibited a small shift in positive direction at room temperature. The observed values of exchange bias are dependant on Zr content.
