Paper Title
THE EFFECT OF IMPLEMENTATION OF E5 TEACHING MODEL ON IRANIAN EFL LEARNER’S LISTENING AND SPEAKING SKILLS

Abstract
E5 teaching model describes a teaching sequence that can be applied for entire programs, specific units and individual lessons. The E5 model represents five stages of a sequence for teaching and learning: Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend (Elaborate), and Evaluate. The purpose of this study was the application of E5 model on EFL learner’s listening and speaking skills. The sample population of research was 40 pupils of an Institute in Mashhad (Iran) who were selected among 100 language learners based on their scores in a homogeneous test called OPT. The participants in the experimental group (20) were treated through the use of E5 model of teaching while those in control group (20) did not enjoy the E5 model meaning they only had ordinary class materials and work. The study tools included OPT, listening and speaking tests applied as pre and post-test. The results of analysis of data from pretests and posttests illustrated that E5 instructional model has a significant effect on participants’ speaking and listening skills in comparison to that of traditional method. The E5 instructional model is potential to be tested on its effect on other language skills too.
