EXAMINING THE SEMANTIC PREFERENCE OF THE LEXEME “HALAL” IN THE INDONESIAN HALAL TOURISM GUIDE: A CORPUS-BASED ANALYSIS

Abstract
Abstract - In recent years, halal has become a prominent topic in a variety of segments, including tourism. Halal issues are discussed not only locally, but also globally. The meaning of the lexeme halal expands with its use.The purpose of this article is to describe the semantic preference of the lexeme “halal” in the Indonesian halal tourism guides from a corpus linguistics perspective.The investigation will focus primarily on the concordance and collocation of the lexeme "halal". The corpus was collected from a halal tourism guide entitled Template Memandu Muslim Travelers dalam Pembangunan Pariwisata Daerah (Template for Guiding Muslim Travelers in Tourism Development in Tourist Areas), published by the Komite Nasional Ekonomi dan Keuangan Syariah/KNEKS(National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance) of Indonesia in 2020. The corpus consists of 5068 tokens and will be analyzed using the AntConc corpus tool version 4.2.0, which was developed by Laurence Anthony (2022).The study shows that the lexeme "halal" appears 77 times in the halal tourism guide. Concordance analysis of the lexeme "halal" in halal tourism guides corpus reveals that it is discussed in relation tovacation, certified, tourism, lifestyle, food/drink, activities, and certificates.Meanwhile, the collocations closest to the lexeme "halal" are vacation, certified, food, halal, and tourism.It can be seen from the results that the two primary semantic sets that the lexeme "halal" is associated with are destination and service.
