DISCOUNTS IN THE VALUATION OF CLOSELY HELD CORPORATIONS

Abstract
Abstract - The valuation of a closely held corporation can be arrived at in a variety of ways. One aspect that is not typically discussed is the role of discounts in the valuation. This paper gives insight into Minority Interest Discounts. This occurs when the appraiser is valuing an equity ownership stake that does not exert control. The absence of control reduces the value of the equity position. Keywords - Business Valuation, Minority Interest Discount.
