Investigation of Ergonomic Risk Factors Among Stone Carving Workers of Jaipur, Rajasthan

Abstract
Stone carving is one of the traditional handicraft sectors that providing multiple job opportunities to a large number of populations of Rajasthan, India. Due to the unorganized work structure, Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs) and injuries are the prime health concern of stone carvers. One fifty-six male carving workers were selected for the study. A modified version of Nordic questionnaire was used to investigate the musculoskeletal issues among the stone carving workers. Descriptive statistics was used to assess the demographic characteristics and occurrence of musculoskeletal symptoms. Ergonomic risk factors were investigated by carrying out the binary logistic regression analysis. Most of stone carvers experienced musculoskeletal issues in different body regions, specifically the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms was high in wrist, shoulder and lower back region. The result of logistic regression analysis stated that work-related factors were significantly associated with the evolution of musculoskeletal symptoms. This research reveals that inappropriate work postures may leads to develop the various musculoskeletal issues and an ergonomic intervention is required to improve the occupational health of stone carvers.
